15 injured in accident

At least 15 people were injured on Saturday night after two taxis and another light motor vehicle collided on the N1 south near the Mariasburg off ramp in Johannesburg West.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, responded through heavy traffic and arrived on scene to find Metro services closing some of the lanes of the highway.

One of the taxis got stationed in the fast lane while the other ended up in the middle of the road. The light motor vehicle lay on its roof in the emergency lane.

Paramedics assessed the scene and found that at least 15 people had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Metro services closed off two lanes of the highway to allow paramedics to treat the injured safely. Once treated, all the patients were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
