Three armed men rob house in Helderkruin

HelderKloof Neighbourhood Watch warns residents not to become complacent.

Another violent crime incident in Helderkruin is worrying the HelderKloof Neighbourhood Watch (HNW).

At around 12 noon today (23 July) three suspects approached a house in Zircon Street where they proceeded to break down the front door. A domestic worker inside the house fled to the backyard when she realised what was happening.

“The men gained access to the house and found her in the backyard by the pool, where they proceeded to assault her.

“They tied her up and started stripping the house of electronics such as TVs, surround sound systems, laptops and jewellery,” says Dowry manager Bruce Webster. All three suspects made off with the loot and could not be traced.

Dowry was the first to respond to the incident, with sector police and even the sector police manager soon following.

“No vehicle was seen at the scene of the crime,” said Webster, “but two other suspicious vehicles have been noted in the area in the past week”.

Webster encourages residents to report suspicious vehicles that regularly are visible in their areas. He hopes that the neighbourhood surveillance cameras installed on Galena Street recently would bring further information to light.

HNW Chairperson Garry Colling says he is very worried about crime in Helderkruin.

“I’m very worried about the crime in the area, particularly because this incident is one of three recent incidents (one in Skyhawk Close and another in Yvonne Street) that have turned violent.

“Residents need to join the neighbourhood watch, be friendly with their neighbours and have their domestic workers join our forums,” said Colling.

“Don’t become complacent.”
