Witpoortjie Neighbourhood Watch’s new jacket

Neighbourhood watch members take their game to the next level.

The Witpoortjie Neighbourhood Watch has grown to such an extent that they had to change their name to reflect the area they now patrol.

According to their public relations officer (PRO) Frikkie van Zyl, the newly named Western Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) now looks after 1 000 of the 8 000 homes in their area and has approximately 1 000 members. Van Zyl says in the past year the WSRNW membership has grown by 20 per cent and their growth in terms of the number of radio is 20 radios per month. This positively affects their reaction time. Currently they have 600 radios in use.

The WSRNW also boasts 100 active patrollers and a specialist reaction unit of 30 members who are trained in handling risk situations.

The WSRNW also has a mass patrol once a week.

Van Zyl is very excited about their control room that will be operational within the next month.

“Our message to the community is plain and simple: Join the neighbourhood watch and take your and your family’s safety in your own hands,” says Van Zyl.

Any person who would like to get involved can visit their website at www.wsrnw.co.za, info@wsrnw.co.za, facebook at “WSRNW” or contact Van Zyl directly on 084 581 9223.

Alternatively residents can attend the WSRNW’s community meeting, which is held every second Monday at Laerskool Culembeeck.

Van Zyl also invited the public to their family day to be held on 16 June at the Witpoortjie Recreation Centre from 8am until late. For more info on this event contact Anette van Rensburg on 082 574 3039.
