One of the six suspects that were arrested by the Metro Police in Roodepoort, has appeared in the Commercial Crimes Court on Monday (26 May).

Three suspects were arrested in Roodepoort and three in Alexandra after Metro Police received a tip-off. Counterfeit US dollars were found in John Rasefete’s residence. The charges against the other five suspects were dropped.

Rasefete appeared in court on charges of contravening the Counterfeit Goods Act as he was found in possession of counterfeit money.

Rasafete was denied bail and will appear in court again on 3 July.

Metro police bust counterfeiters

Three suspects were arrested by the Metro Police along Ontdekkers Road yesterday (19 May) at approximately 5pm, according to Metro Police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.

The arrest came after they had received a tip-off that the particular white VW Polo was transporting counterfeit money. The men were apprehended and the forged money counted, totalling US $930 000.

Minnaar says that another two suspects were arrested in Alexandra, also in relation to the counterfeit money.

Three of the suspects will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court and two in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court, all on charges of forgery.
