Tree keeled over on Christiaan de Wet

Fallen tree on Christiaan de Wet Road not the cause of an accident that occurred there.

A tree falling over on Christiaan de Wet Road is causing mayhem.

This morning the Record journalist came to hear of a tree that fell over on Christiaan de Wet Road, causing major traffic congestion. Rumours that a bus was damaged while travelling under or near the tree have not been confirmed.

ER 24 spokesperson Luyanda Majija told the Record that their paramedics were on scene but could not yet confirm what had happened.

At 10.02 am ER 24 spokesperson Russell Meiring confirmed their presence but dispelled the rumour that a tree falling over caused an accident.

“A tree had fallen over on Christiaan de Wet Road and is currently congesting the traffic even more, however, the fallen tree was around the bend of where an accident occurred.

“That incident might have sparked this rumour — but no one got injured because of the fallen tree, not that we carry knowledge of.”

Meiring corrected the story by reporting that a head-on collision occurred between a taxi and another vehicle on Christiaan de Wet Road this morning at around 9 am.

“Witnesses on scene had stated that the taxi drove in oncoming traffic, causing the head-on collision,” he told the Record.

ER 24 paramedics treated two patients on scene and both sustained moderate injuries. The patients had additionally sustained soft tissue injuries to their chests and legs.

“Both were transported to Leratong hospital for further medical care,” concluded Meiring, saying that the cause of the accident would remain the subject of a police investigation.”

JMPD was not present on the scene of the accident.
