Biker (23) seriously injured on Ouklip

Another biker seriously injured on Ouklip Road following a collision.

Yet another accident occurred on the infamous Ouklip Road on the afternoon of Thursday 6 February.

At around 3.30 pm a biker collided with an elderly motorist’s Toyota.

Natalie Germanes, who was visiting her aunt’s house on the corner of Ouklip Road and Bondeberg Street, told the Record what she understood had happened.

The elderly woman was driving down Ouklip Road from CR Swart Road and had indicated that she wanted to turn right into Bondeberg Street. The biker also travelled from the same direction and attempted to pass the vehicle, at which time the elderly woman turned into Bondeberg Street. The motorcycle collided with the vehicle. The force had flung the motorcyle and biker against the pallisades of the aunt’s house, whereafter the biker landed sprawled on the sidewalk.

The biker (23), who’s name is known by the Record, was travelling along Ouklip Road to meet his family for his birthday lunch.

ER 24 personnel assessed his condition and stabilised him on the scene, whereafter an ER 24 helicopter airlifted him to nearby medical facilities.

“I left the stoep where I was sitting and rushed to the scene outside the yard.

“As I understood, he had slight head injuries.

“He was unresponsive but was still breathing and had sustained a broken arm,” Germanes told the Record.

Family friend Johan Steyn that arrived on the scene confirmed that Thursday was his birthday. He reported that the man had only had his motorcycle for two weeks prior to the accident.

ER 24 spokesperson Russel Meiring confirmed that the patient was airlifted to Milpark Hospital for further treatment. He had said that the patient had severe head, chest and leg injuries but could not confirm the broken arm rumour.
