Florida on top against Diepsloot

Locals victorious by 171 runs following great batting display.

The senior team of Florida Cricket Club (FCC) remains comfortably in second place on the Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) Sunday Six League table following their dominating 171-run victory at home against Diepsloot on Sunday 26 January.

Florida was by far the better team on the day having smashed a very competitive 239 runs in 34 overs.

Top batsmen for the local team were Brandon Spence (74), Deen Kimmie (58) and Damian Plotini (25).

Diepsloot had a mountain to climb from the word go.

They struggled all the way and were bowled out for just 68 runs in the 18th over. The pick of the bowlers for FCC was Caleb Probert with scores of three for seven from three overs.

He was backed up well by Brandon Spence (two for seven from three overs) and Omar Kimmie (two for 12 with one maiden from four overs).

Despite the big win, narrowing the gap between Florida and log leaders, Azaadville Cricket Club remains a big task.

FCC’s next fixture is against Crescents Cricket Club on Sunday 2 February. Crescents is fifth on the log at the time of print. The FCC senior team for the 2013/2014 season is Deen Kimmie (captain), Caleb Probert (vice-captain), Damian Plotini, Brian van Rooyen Jnr, Henry Hayes, Brandon Spence, Omar Kimmie, Cole Abrahams (wicketkeeper), JP Wiehann, Junaid Batty, Deon van Boomen and Thabo Gaegi.
