Roodepoort residents trained in crime detection

Roodepoort Police and various community block watches attended general training in crime detection in Witpoortjie.

The Roodepoort police collaborated with various block watches to teach members about crime detection.

Police members met with active residents from the respective Witpoortjie, Roodekrans, Helderkruin and Horison block watch groups at Culembeeck Primary School on Saturday morning 12 October.

According to Warrant Officer Gerrit van Deventer, the group followed a basic paramedics course and later was given a presentation on crime trends and what to look out for in their areas.

From 10am everyone gathered in a hall where experts shared information about dog poisoning with the group. For people and animals activated charcoal seems to be the best treatment for most ingested poisons because it absorbs the poison. It also was explained that no one should force an animal to vomit if they’re not certain whether or not the animal was poisoned. “We want to help the community to handle crime in their respective areas.

“We’re teaching them how to act in emergency situations and what to look out for in their community and at their homes.

“We’re helping them to help themselves and in turn, to alert the police if anything suspicious turns up,” Van Deventer explained to the Record.
