Evil Ouklip Road ‘strikes again’

Another motorist crashes into tree.

Paramedics and emergency services rushed to the scene of yet another serious accident on Ouklip Road after a blue Volkswagen Golf crashed into a tree early on Friday morning 2 August.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann, “The man is believed to be in his early 30s and sustained serious to critical injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital.”

Steinmann also confirmed that the man was trapped inside his vehicle and had to be freed by the Jaws of Life.

At the Record‘s arrival Joburg Emergency Services (EMS) were seen cutting both sides of the vehicle to free the man.

“It is yet unclear what happened, but the cause of the accident will depend on an investigation,” Steinmann added.

Other authorities to have arrived on scene were the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), the South African Police Service (SAPS) and ER24 as well as its A1 Assist tow truck crew.

The accident took place just after 1am on the infamous Ouklip Road with Piketberg Street being the nearest corner – approximately 15 metres away from where two men in their mid-20s crashed into a tree in late June. The driver tragically died on scene while the passenger passed away in hospital the next day.

Residents are now on their knees begging the Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) to intervene.

“This is the last straw,” an Ouklip Road resident who has witnessed many accidents on Ouklip Road said.

“How many people should get hurt for something to be done on this road?” he asked.
