Pitbull attacks its owner

The Roodepoort SPCA had to euthanise an aggressive pitbull.

A pitbull turned on its owner and later attacked the neighbour on the morning of 18 July.

Roodepoort SPCA inspector Charmaigne Joubert, who was called out to the scene, spoke to the Record about the incident.

“When I arrived, the dog had already bitten its owner and the owner’s neighbour.

“This was a problem dog. We had visited this house before and gave the owner advice on pitbull training.

“We even suggested that the pitbull be sterilised, but to no avail.”

Joubert says the two people were injured badly and needed medical attention.

“A passer-by had shot the dog but when I got there, the dog was still alive.”

Both Joubert and senior inspector and manager Mandy Cattanach were sad to report that the dog was “humanely euthanised” after the incident.

“Pitbulls are not aggressive by nature. The owners make them aggressive. In this event, the owners are to blame.”

Cattanach promised to share valuable photographic evidence of the incident with the Record.

The Record will give an update as soon as more information becomes available.
