271 drunk drivers arrested and six jailed for speeding
JMPD officers trapped, arrested and detained six that were speeding.
According to Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, six road users were detained for speeding on the N1 on Sunday 30 June.
JMPD officers were trapping offenders at the 14th Avenue off-ramp between 6am and 4pm on the day.
Minnaar explained that the fastest recorded speed on Sunday was that of a rider on a Honda motorbike, at 194 kilometres per hour.
Minnaar also reported 271 drunk driving-related arrests over the weekend in the greater Johannesburg.
The six offenders that were arrested and later detained at the Honeydew Police Station were to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on Monday 1 July.
The other offenders were to appear in various Johannesburg courts between Monday and Tuesday.
