International Study Finds Durban Best Place to Live in SA

Residents of Durban who believe their city is the best in the country have reason to smile as those beliefs were recently validated by an international report which named the city as the best to live in within South Africa.

The annual Mercer Quality of Living Ranking report is in and the result falls in favour of Durban. The city came in at 89th place globally and ranked as the second best city to live in on the entire African continent, narrowly missing out the top spot to the Mauritian city of Port Louis which came in 83th place.

According to the report, “Port Louis (83) is the highest ranking African city for quality of living followed by the Durban (89), Cape Town (94) and Johannesburg (95). N’Djamena (226), Khartoum (227) and Bangui (230) stay the lowest ranked in the region. Persistent political instability, poverty, extreme climates and lack of appropriate infrastructure investments means these cities have the lowest quality of living worldwide.”

European cities managed to walk off with the majority of the accolades with the only North American spot in the top 10 being occupied by Canada’s beautiful Vancouver. Dubai continues to rank highest in the Middle-East while Singapore took top prize in Asia, and several Australian cities performed very well.

Here are the top 10 for 2018:
