International Quality of Living Study Finds Durban Best in SA

Durban knocks out continental African competitors in the 2018 Mercer Quality of Living Ranking report for offering the best quality of living. The study weighed several indicators to determine the quality of life in cities all over the world, revealing that Durbanites have been right all along.

For those who have been searching for property for sale in Durban, the Mercer Quality of Living Ranking report published in 2018 had some findings which probably bolstered their own. The city came in at 89th place globally but ranked as the second best city to live in on the entire African continent, narrowly missing out the top spot to the Mauritian city of Port Louis which came in 83th place globally. It’s hard to beat an island paradise afterall.

Residents of Durban enjoy fantastic weather all year round, the warm Indian Ocean, great schools, free-flowing traffic and excellent value for money in the property market. Durban boasts a lifestyle which is hard to compete with. Two other South African cities did manage to make the top 100 cities for lifestyle globally, being Cape Town in 94th place and Johannesburg at 95th.

Cape Town’s ongoing water crisis and Johannesburg’s gridlocked traffic congestion would have played roles in their lower ranking, problems which Durban simply does not share. Residents of the city have long claimed that theirs is the greatest city in the country, and international observers have now validated this long held belief. Mercer research conducted detailed analyses of all the cities in the world, with Europe taking most of the spoils.

Here are the top 10 for 2018:

The Top 10 City Rankings Worldwide

  8. Geneva (Switzerland)
  9. Copenhagen (Denmark)
