HIGHVELD – Two local DJs will bring their own signature sound to the eMalahleni Color Fest and represent the very best local musical talent.
DJ Fanzo and DJ Sgo were approached by the organisers of the first festival of its kind that will be held in Mpumalanga, and will perform on Saturday, 25 February.
DJ Fanzo who has more than 10 years of experience in the industry, explained how he came to be a DJ: “I have always loved music. I used to be a dancer, but decided to pursue this career this year.
“I was 18 years old when I began and my genre of choice is mainly house music, with much of my inspiration coming from well-known South African artists.”
Though he loves his work, he warned young artists that it is not easy to make it in the music industry.
“Make sure you finish school first and have something to fall back on.
“Work hard and get an education while you pursue music as a hobby, then you can get a feeling for the industry and based on the response to your work, decide whether you want to make the shift to full-time DJ-ing.”
DJ Sgo who is a few years younger than DJ Fanzo, echoed his sentiments and reminded young musicians that passion alone is not enough to make it in the industry.
“Passion is obviously important, but it takes dedication and hard work as well.
“You must be realistic and know that it takes time to build a career.”
DJ Sgo specialises in HipHip and often collaborates with DJ Fanzo.
The two work as a tag-team at big events, such as the eMalahleni Color Fest.
Though it is a tough industry, the two DJs still want to inspire young artists to follow their dreams.
“If you really are serious about this and you believe in your sound, then do not let anyone stop you,” said DJ Fanzo.
DJ Sgo agreed: “Chase your dreams and do not give up.”
Both DJs are excited about the upcoming festival and invited their local fans to support them on the day.
