Crash brings Standerton CBD to a standstill

Lunchtime collision brings CBD to a standstill

A lunchtime collision between three vehicles on the corner of Princess Street and Dr Beyers Naudé Street brought the central business district to a standstill on 29 May.

According to an eyewitness, a police vehicle was travelling down Princess Street with his warning lights on and siren screaming. The lights had turned red for him, but he kept going and collided with a car that crossed the intersection.

After destroying the front of that vehicle, the momentum of the police vehicle was enough for it to collide with a bakkie, travelling in the opposite direction, that was already stationary at the traffic lights.

No injuries were sustained during the incident, but time was needed to clean up the debris left.

According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, spokesman of the Standerton Police, they were aware of the incident, but no comment could be made until further investigation.
