Gert and Sylvia saved by community’s care

Not only has Mr Meiring been employed as a foreman at the graveyard, but they have now been granted residence by Ms Bettie Coetzer from Azalea.

Mr Gert and Ms Sylvia Meiring would like to thank everyone who came to their rescue after an article about them in the Standerton Ibis.

Not only has Mr Meiring been employed as a foreman at the graveyard, but they have now been granted residence by Ms Bettie Coetzer from Azalea.

They thanked the Standerton Old Age Home, especially auntie Martie, for the three meals a day they received.

The people from Mr Sound for the gazebo and the donations of pots and pans received a special thank you.

Little Angels for the contributions and well wishes were warmly welcomed.

Mr Meiring did not want to single anyone out for there has been so many anonymous donations and people stopping by with clothes and food and gift vouchers.

He said he feels like a human being again and has the courage and will to carry on.

He knows even if employed, money is scarce, but people are still prepared to help those in need.

Their daughter and grandson are doing well and they are keeping in constant touch with them.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), who told them it could take months for any kind of support, donated a generous food voucher.

The Meirings thanked everyone from the bottom of their hearts for the support shown.
