Bring back the neighbourhood watch to Cullinan

Cullinan Police therefore urge residents to watch over each other’s property and personal safety.

A neighbourhood watch is widely recognised as one of the most effective ways for neighbourhoods to reduce crime in their immediate surrounding areas.

It will also assist in protecting property, reducing vehicle break-ins as well as burglaries.

It serves as a community-based crime prevention activity.

That is according to the Cullinan Police and the station now calls for Cullinan residents to restore their local neighbourhood watch.

This comes after reports of incidents where victims were allegedly heard screaming by their neighbours during robberies.

“Some residents were robbed of their valuables in the view of neighbours without any intervention or attempt to assist,” Const Connie Moganedi from Cullinan Police corporate communication, said.

A neighbourhood watch, established with the assistance of the Police, usually involves local residents who care for each other with a willingness to actively participate in keeping their neighbourhoods clean of crime.

“It carries out activities such as reporting ‘suspicious activity’ and improving personal and home security,” Const Moganedi added.

Cullinan Police therefore urge residents to watch over each other’s property and personal safety. By doing so, residents are keeping up the spirit of Ubuntu ‘humanity’, without committing vigilantism or endangering their lives.

The Cullinan Police also want to provide a few easy and general safety tips to the residents of Cullinan.

“Be your neighbours’ keeper; be of assistance every time a neighbour is calling for help, especially during a criminal incident.”

The Cullinan Police further urged residents to report any suspicious vehicle or movement in their immediate area or at a neighbour’s house.

“Be a whistle blower when witnessing crime happening in your presence or at the neighbour’s place,” Const Moganedi concluded.
