ATC Cullinan hosts a Taekwon-do seminar

The ATC Cullinan and ATC Rayton are adding hopae to their sparing weapons.

Cullinan Taekwon-do entered the Hapkido promotion seminar held by sabum Sanko Lewis from Korea on January 3 and 4.

They began with the history of the art, learning that Hapkido is taught to the police forces in Korea.

Hapkido is used to disarm and apprehend suspects by manipulating a suspect’s movements to submit in a lock of a limb, a throw to the ground or a crank to the neck to render the suspect totally submissive to the apprehender.
He taught two techniques – short-stick and the hopae.

Techniques of strikes and blocks were the focus, to takedowns using the short stick on pressure points on the body.

The hopae that will be added to the weapons sparring in ATC Cullinan and Rayton Dojangs.

The hopae will be added to the syllabus of ATC Cullinan and ATC Rayton dojangs by boo sabum Justin Collett (second dan) as a sparing weapon in the upcoming tournaments.

Collett, undefeated in all weapon sparing in the ring or training, is excited to add the hopae to his classes and events.

At the end of the weekend, with lots of aches and pains, and a sprain here and there, everyone progressed to the next level.

Collett thanked the Petra Dimond Mine for their community hall.
