Shooters compete in annual IPSC day and night shoot near Trichardt

Different techniques were used by the shooters during the night shoot, with some using pistol-mounted lights/lasers, handheld lights, night sights and red dot sights.

The Teks Shooting Club held its annual IPSC day/night shoot on July 2 and had shooters compete in nine stages of which four stages were during the day and five stages at night.

Each stage was designed to test each shooter’s capabilities in different scenarios concerning the balance of accuracy, power and speed.

During the night stages, shooters had to shoot either using only the ambient light that was provided or with their own pistol mounted or handheld light which creates a whole new challenge as opposed to shooting during daytime.

Practical pistol shooters enjoy the challenge of shooting at night and could see whether their skills are as effective at night as during the day.

Different techniques were used by the shooters during the night shoot, with some using pistol-mounted lights/lasers, handheld lights, night sights and red dot sights.

“Important factors to consider shooting at night are whether you are able to keep the same level of accuracy due to the fact that it is much harder to see your sights, the effect the muzzle blast and smoke has and of course being able to see the target at which you are aiming at,” said Aron Theron, of the Teks Shooting Club.

Theron went on to say that shooting at night is an important skill that all pistol owners must-have.

“It was interesting to see some of the shooters’ skills and/or lack thereof in the challenging conditions by shooting at night,” said Theron.
