Jannie Degenaar and Reney Raven both received a gold medal in their respective categories.

Three senior belt karateka from the Three Swords Dojo in Standerton took part in the provincial championship in Delmas on Saturday, February 12.

Parth Jayram received a bronze medal in his kumite division and earned a spot in the provincial team.

Jannie Degenaar and Reney Raven both received a gold medal in their respective categories.

They will represent the province at the senior national championship in Gauteng on April 2 and 3.

The junior national championship took place in Kwa-Zulu Natal on March 4 and 5 and Parth represented his province with pride.

“This was the biggest national championship for the past five years, with divisions as many as 32 competitors per division,” Jannie said.

“Parth’s division was no exception, and he stood his ground and earned a well-deserved seventh position.

“As this was the first time that he took part in a competition of this magnitude, it is indeed a performance to be proud of.”

The next major competition for these karateka will be the first league in Bloemfontein, early in April.

Jannie and Reney are also hard at work to prepare themselves to represent South Africa in the UFAK All Africa Championship in Tongaat, Kwa-Zulu Natal during the last weekend in April.
