Standerton’s cricket sizzles at an open match

Standerton went home with 230/6 after 20 overs, leaving Piet Retief to lick their wounds with 63/10 after 11,5 overs.

Standerton CC1 beat Piet Retief convincingly with 167 runs in an open T20-cricket match on Saturday, October 23.

The cricketers played on the grounds of Piet Retief High School.

Standerton opted to bat first and Kai Daniel excelled in scoring 100 runs of 53 balls, Quintin Kruger 28 runs of 13 balls and Werner Mouton 19 runs of 10 balls.

Piet Retief’s bowlers attacked with Nsikilele Shabangu taking two wickets, conceding 40 runs, Jacques Nel taking one wicket, conceding 20 runs and Luco van der Walt taking one wicket, conceding 39 runs.

Once in front of the wicket, Van der Walt scored 29 runs off 20 balls, André Ridgard five runs off 13 balls and Mohammed Malek four runs off five balls.

The scoreboard of the home team showed Jaden Breytenbach with 3/11, Andrew van Rensburg with 2/1 and Mouton with 2/7.

This victory resulted in a first to compete in the Premier T20-final.

Matches took place at the Piet van den Berg-oval on Saturday, October 30 and the following Sunday.

The second team’s clash was against Elukwatini (Badplaas) on Saturday and should they have come out tops, it would have been the third time in a row to win a T20 final.

Standerton CC1 had Secunda as opponent on Sunday in Secunda.
