Renier trains for Drakensberg Grand Traverse 250km solo run

The plea is to serve the community and Mr Louwrens is calling on businesses to jump on board and to also challenge each other.

Following his exit from Survivor SA, Mr Renier Louwrens has shifted his focus from the celebrity life, to giving back to the community.

He often speaks about putting purpose to publicity and is committed to uplift the community.

He has been working hard and preparing for this journey which has some exciting trademarks to it.

Being exposed to a temporary life of starvation and suffering during Survivor, Mr Louwrens decided to offer sustainable help to those who experience it on a more permanent basis.

Mr Louwrens will be attempting to set a new fastest known time solo record on the Drakensberg Grand Traverse (DGT) North to South (250km).

The DGT attempt is planned to take place in March 2022 and covers some of the most dangerous and challenging terrains in the country. Lives are lost on this route almost every year, even as recently as two months ago.

Fireplace Roadhouse came on board right from the get go and enables this attempt to take place by sponsoring some of the equipment required.

This will directly impact the lives of thousands of people who are struggling.

The last weekend in October officially kick off the Beyond39 campaign with a 110km scouting run in the Drakensberg.

There is a massive build-up before the event takes place and currently, Mr Louwrens is working on getting all the technicalities out of the way, such as GPS navigating, nutrition over 250km, gear and sleep strategies.

“At this point, training is governed by professional coach John Hamlett,” said Mr Louwrens

Grip and Rip CrossFit has also jumped on board and have offered Mr Louwrens unlimited use of their facilities.

“This event is definitely happening. If you have a conviction to be involved in serving a charity this is the place to do it,” said Mr Louwrens.

One of the big reasons this event can take place and we can set the platform to impact so many lives, is because of the primary enabling company who came on board in the form of Westvaal Motor Group.

Westvaal has thrown their full backing behind the event, providing the necessary vehicle support for the scouting runs, transport of crew on the weekend of the event as well as contributing financially into the charity leg of the campaign.

Although local charities have been identified, Mr Louwrens said their motto for Beyond 39 is “sustainably better”.

“If a company says they have a contribution which they want to make to a specific charitable organisation, Beyond 39 is the channel to do it through. In the process, we give you exposure to this world record attempt.

“We are chanelled towards whatever sustainable improvement project we can fund in our local community.”

The plea is to serve the community and Mr Louwrens is calling on businesses to jump on board and to also challenge each other.

“If you are a company who can donate R20 000 please do it. If you are an individual who wants to donate R20 please do it, we need all the support,” said Mr Louwrens.

He said there are three things they are looking for being financial contributions, exposure contributions and more volunteering hands behind the scenes of Beyond 39.

“I want people to know that you are not funding “Renier’s campaign”, that is not the case. What you will be doing is funding a sustainable improvement charity and in the process being a part of Beyond 39 and all the endeavours which we are undertaking.”

Beyond 39 aims to raise an amount of more than R100 000 by the end of November and has a final goal of R500 000 by the time the event takes place in March 2022.

Mr Louwrens thanked all the businesses who have jumped on board thus far namely: Westvaal Motor Group Secunda, Grip and Rip CrossFit, Fireplace Roadhouse, Physiotherapists Lumé Brits and Attooh financial advisors.

This is your time to get involved in uplifting the community as well as be part of a solo world record attempt.
