eMBALENHLE – The Twizza Netball League in Gert Sibande District was played at eMbalenhle Sasol Club, on Saturday, 22 May.

Func Netball Club won by 23-7 against Double Trouble Netball Club, while Juventus NC played and drew against Thunder Girls NC.

This log has twelve teams including two male netball teams which are playing in Gert Sibande District Twizza league.

The league took a break for the week, following the selection of players from different teams for the Mpumalanga Sun Bird Squad Camp fitness test.

The final selection will be on 22 June, where the final squad that will represent Mpumalanga will be selected.

The Juventus team (blue t-shirt), tries to pass by the Thunder Girls’ defense.

The selected squad will represent the province in the Telkom Netball League once they have passed the fitness tests.

“There are many teams that are not registered with us.

“By bringing games to play here, we are encouraging them to be members of the association in order to compete against the best,” said Ms Bongekile Mahlangu, Gert Sibande Netball Association’s vice chairperson.

Ms Mahlangu said their league games will resume on 12 June when the Mpumalanga netball fitness camp is completed.

She encouraged young people, regardless of gender, to join netball clubs in their communities.

“We also encourage members of our communities to begin playing netball because it doesn’t have an age restriction.

“It is only the league that is strict on age but beyond that, anyone can be part of any netball team, said Ms Mahlangu.
