Taekwondo athletes to do first testing via Zoom

“Get yourself in a routine. Get up, get dressed and get ready for the day. Don’t think about it, just do it.”

SECUNDA –Victory Taekwondo Family Centre and Karate for Kids athletes can look forward to the first ever Zoom testing which will be happening from 8 to 11 June.

Although lockdown has been challenging, most athletes have been preparing for the upcoming test via Zoom classes.

Tutorial videos have been sent out to motivate the children to do stretches and warm-ups before logging into Zoom classes; however this means more involvement from the parents’ side to ensure these warm-ups are done prior to classes.

“As one would normally drive children to classes, now we need commitment from the parents in a different way to ensure athletes do their warm ups and making sure children are logged in on time for sessions,” said Ms Erika Vorster.

Ms Vorster said that they have also found that the children are missing the interaction.

“A couple of our athletes have stopped for the time-being, because it has become so impersonal in comparison to the interaction at the club.”

However this has not stopped other athletes. In some cases parents have become involved and participate with warming up and training.

“On the positive side of Zoom, with it being winter, parents do not want to travel in the cold, especially in the evenings. Now our athletes can continue with training in the comfort and warmth of their own homes.”

Ms Vorster said it is very important to stay in some type of a routine.

“Get yourself in a routine. Get up, get dressed and get ready for the day. Don’t think about it, just do it.”

Ms Vorster ended by saying that it is important to continue staying healthy and fit for one’s own physiological and mental health.
