Meintjie Jansen completes ‘Loskop Marathon’ in her back yard

Family is proud of super mom

TRICHARDT – A local marathon runner, Meintjie Jansen, decided that not even a lockdown will prevent her from running the 50km Loskop Ultra Marathon.

She could however not run it near Middelburg and Loskop Dam where it usually takes place, so she completed this race in her yard in Trichardt on 18 April.

She rose at 4am, prepared everything and even set up a water point for herself on a table outside.

She hit the ‘road’ at about 5am and began battling mentally when she reached her 27km-mark.

Her husband, Mr Corné Jansen, and her two children, Deane and Janco Jansen, motivated and supported her and she decided to continue.

“When I reached 33km, I really began questioning myself and wondered why I had decided to do this run, but still I continued,” said Jansen.

She doubted herself again when she reached 38km and lied on the grass and did not want to continue, but Mr Jansen told her she began the race and she must finish it.

“I then went on and finally finished my yard-marathon.

“Time is not important, mentally I was totally drained and it was very tough, but I finished it.

“I am glad I could accomplish this,” said Jansen.
