Sport activities put on hold until Covid-19 restrictions are lifted in Ermelo

“Indoor and outdoor sports facilities (gymnastics, stadiums, pavilions and sports arenas) are temporarily prevented and prohibited from operations or hosting any activity or function with GSDM until further notice.”

Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) released a notice of prohibitions and restrictions on the use of public facilities during Covid-19 outbreak on 20 March.

“Indoor and outdoor sports facilities (gymnastics, stadiums, pavilions and sports arenas) are temporarily prevented and prohibited from operations or hosting any activity or function with GSDM until further notice.”

This was issued before the President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, stated that South Africa would go into a 21-day lockdown.

Sporting activities such as Kralinbergh parkrun, shooting at Vlakfontein Shooting Range, Ermelo Remote Control racing near Ermelo Airfield, Ermelo Angling Club, Ermelo Bowling Club, Ermelo Ringbal Klub and all South African Football Association(SAFA) matches are suspended in the Gert Sibande region.

Mr Siphamandla Nkosi, a local football administrator, said: “The Covid-19 virus outbreak has affected all SAFA matches as SAFA suspended all leagues until further notice, the GSDM restrictions were made after SAFA already suspended all football.”

According to Mr Kobus Grobler, vice chairman of Ermelo RC Club, no further events will be held until Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
