No, it’s not ballet, but the Standerton parkrun

This weekly event is free of charge and volunteers are on hand to ensure the safety of athletes at the Standerton River Park.

The tutu-theme at the Standerton parkrun is held when the 22nd falls on a Saturday and that was the case a week ago.

Participants dressed for the occasion and a few milestones were celebrated.

Madelein de Bruyn and Stanley du Plessis achieved their 50th marker, while Chrizell Roberts set a new female record of 19 min 53 sec. Roberts also took part in this year’s Comrades Marathon and completed the distance in a time of 8:55,24.

Volunteers also have no qualms about encouraging those falling behind to make it to the finish line in maybe a new personal best. Chantel Lee, Charl van Wyk, Chrisjan Swart, Corne Griesel, Jennifer Naidoo, Johan van Zyl, Justin Strydom, Koos Potgieter, Leandri van Wyk, Lizette Jansen van Rensburg, Marjorie Uys, Natanya Roscherr, Stanley du Plessis, Simoné Schutte and Theo Schönfeldt facilitated smooth running on 29 June where five participants clocked their personal best times.
