Walker Park Golf Club in Evander crowns Gold Rush tournament champs

Van Biljon and Potgieter tied for the overall title as champion of the Gold Rush and a play off was called

EVANDER – Hansie Anandale and Renet van Biljon are this year’s Gold Rush golf tournament champs.

They accumulated the best scores over the four days of the tournament held at Walker Park Golf Club from Friday, 14 June to Monday, 17 June.

A prize giving ceremony was held every day with men and women winners.

RJ Ferreira won the Friday competition with 40 points.

Pierre Theron came second with 39 points and Sakkie Pelser was third with 38 points.

Vanessa Potgieter won the women’s competition on Friday with 35 points.

Eruka Bodenstein came second with 34 points and Rosemary Rudolph was third with 32 points.

The Saturday competition’s was winner Deon Uys with 43 points on a count out, followed by Stefan Meyer also on 43 points.

Lukas Potgieter was third with 41 points.

Van Biljon won the women’s competition on Saturday with 38 points.

Fienie Siebrits was second with 37 points and Vanessa Potgieter third with 35 points.

Henry Brooks clinched the first prize on Sunday with 44 points, with Hannes Henderson in second place with 42 points on a count out.

Riaan Burger was third with 42 points.

Vanessa Potgieter also won the Sunday competition for the women. She scored 39 points and won on a count out with Eruka Bodenstein in second place also with 39 points.

Ela Smith came third.

Anandale won the Monday match with 43 points which secured his top score and placed him overall first to win the tournament.

Van Biljon also won the women’s competition for the Monday.

She and Potgieter tied for the overall title as champion of the Gold Rush and a play off was called.

The two teed off on the 18th hole and Van Biljon secured the title with one less stroke than Potgieter.
