Mpumalanga U/23 team takes silver at SACCS Blackball Champs

Aiden Joseph from Gauteng was crowned the singles Champion and the U/23 player of the Year.

SECUNDA – The U/23 Mpumalanga cue sport team comprising several locals, took second place in the South African Confederation of Cue Sport Blackball Championship held as Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club last week.

The finals in the senior and U/23 championships were played in the Graceland Arena on Saturday, 16 February.

Although the senior team fell out before the semi-finals, Mpumalanga’s U/23 team played their hearts out to secure a spot on the podium.

Aiden Joseph from Gauteng was crowned the Singles Champion and the U/23 Player of the Year.

He is now ranked number one in the South African Protea Blackball team.

Joseph won R6 000 on Saturday night.

The way the players glided around the pool table with their eyes fixed on the ball, holding on to the mathematical possibilities running through their heads that could sink their balls into the sockets and winning over their opponents, cue sport is not just a bar game, but serious business.

Cue sport teams descended on Secunda from all over the country in hopes to win the title.

The supporters of each team traveled with showed immense support, shouting out “Come on boy!, Come on ‘laatie’, who is he (opponent).”

In the end many players walked away with medals and recognition at the awards ceremony.
