Bethal beats Kinross in semi-final

Cricket club invites community to support them this Sunday at Hoërskool Hoogenhout

BETHAL – The Courier Guys Bethal Bears and Courier Guy Bethal Old Boys shined during recent cricket matches.

Both teams played on Saturday, 2 February in Secunda against the Sasol Bulldogs and eMbalenhle respectively and won their matches.

The Old Boys won the toss and sent eMbalenhle in to bat first.

Mr Neil Parsons of the Courier Guys Bethal Bears Cricket Club said all the Old Boys bowlers contributed well and Fires van der Heever and John Smith stood out with their performances.

eMbalenhle only managed to score 81/6 in their 20 overs.

The Old Boys won the match the seventh over with Daan Coetzer scoring 51 runs in 18 balls which included two boundaries and six 6s. Captain of the Old Boys, Johan Strydom, said it has been an amazing season so far with a bunch of guys just playing for the love and enjoyment of the game.

The Courier Guys Bethal Bears beat the Secunda Bulldogs who only managed to make 153 runs.

The Bears’ best bowlers were Dillon Pillay with four wickets for 20 runs in seven overs and Ashley Methula with three wickets for 29 runs in 8.1 overs.

The Bears made the winning runs in only 16 overs with Drikus Pentz making 72 runs from 43 balls and Johann Stadler with 46 runs of 14 balls which included six 6s.

Mr Charles Pentz, coach of the Bears, said they are happy with the all round performance of the batsmen and bowlers and hope to take this form into the next game.

The Courier Guy Bethal Bears Old Boys cricket team beat Sasol Kinross in the T20 semi-final on Saturday, 9 February in Standerton.

Mr Neil Parsons of the Bears, said the Old Boys bowled first and restricted Kinross to a mere 117 runs in 20 overs.

Fires van der Heever and Charl de Klerk took two wickets each.

Bethal lost two quick wickets just after they went in to bat, but Johan Strydom played a captain’s knock of 63 runs in 36 balls.

According to Parsons, he was supported by Louis Behr with 45 runs in 40 balls.

The final match in the Gert Sibande T20 league will take place in Bethal on Sunday, 17 February and the Old Boys invited the Bethal community to support them at Hoërskool Hoogenhout.

The Old Boys beat eMbalenhle last weekend in a promotional league.
