Police marksman Van Schaik bags more medals

He clinched the title of Senior Champion and was awarded a gold medal and trophy for this achievement

SECUNDA – W/O Louwrens van Schaik won several medals at the North West Combat Rifle Championship held at Potchefstroom on 28 and 29 September.

A total of 109 shooters from North West, Gauteng North, Gauteng South, Mpumalanga, Free State, Natal and Northern Cape competed.

“The wind was hot and coming strong from the right (north west and western wind) with a strong mirage on Friday, 28 September,” W/O Van Schaik told the newspaper.

“Some shooters were also shooting in the rain in the early afternoon where marksmen were competing in the Individual Championship.”

The team events took place on Saturday, 29 September.

“The wind was coming from the left, front and the right with mirages and rapid changes. This tested our ability to observe the weather and change our aiming points accordingly during matches. And as you are competing in a team, communication during a team match is of crucial importance.”

W/O Van Schaik received gold medals for 100m rapid standing to sitting position with nine victories and a full score, and the 300m mix grill prone position (with a full score).

He obtained bronze in the 300m snap prone position, as well as a third place in the rapid totals combined.

W/O Van Schaik was placed 7th overall and received a bronze medal and a trophy for this achievement.

He clinched the title of Senior Champion and was awarded a gold medal and trophy for this achievement.

The mixed team that he formed part of, named ‘Gat sonder end’, came first in the team contest.
