400 races later and Greg Scorer is still at it for Secunda Marathon Club

I was running the Boston marathon in 2013 when those bombs exploded

SECUNDA – Frustration to be stuck in traffic while waiting for marathon runners to pass, was enough to drive Greg Scorer to become one of the runners the following year.

Sure enough, the following year Scorer was also running the Sasol Half Marathon. That was 25 years ago and he kept on running since.

This 55 year-old runner completed his 400th race for the Secunda Marathon Club on Tuesday, 9 October when the club ran the pre-race of the Waypoint Night Race.

These 400 racers ran in SMC colours, including several Comrades and Two Oceans ultra marathons.

The most intense race that he participated in, was in Boston.

“I was running the Boston Marathon in 2013 when those bombs exploded. It was absolutely unreal!”

The Secunda Marathon Club made Scorer’s 400th race a brag run by waving a large banner over him all the way.

Celebrating Greg Scorer’s 400th race are Peter and Broni van der Meer, Wilna Jordaan and Greg and Marijke Scorer.
