Macailin Horne takes the top prize at dance competition in Evander

EVANDER – Julie-Ann’s School of Dance hosted their fourth annual dance competition at The Dutch Reformed Church in Evander on Saturday, 22 September.

People from three to 26 years old participated in five different dance categories, including freestyle, hip-hop, acrobatics, disco and modern.

The dancers prepared for this event all year and practiced up to 10 hours a week from Mondays and Fridays.

The overall winner was Macailin Horne.

“We had over 140 items on the day and all the dancers obtained awesome results with 80 per cent and higher,” said a proud Ms Julie-Ann Maudlin.

She thanked the parents who sponsored and assisted on the day.

There are 82 dancers in the school.

Their list of achievements included 22 students receiving national colours at the South African Dance Championship.

They won the “Dans in jou Taal” competition in the freestyle category, as well as the audience’s choice award, which will be aired on KykNet next year.

Ms Maudlin also hosts a fitness boot camp at Laerskool Kinross from Mondays to Fridays at 6pm.
