Bethal Bears beat eMbalenhle and Piet Retief

Bears will play in six-a-side tournament on Saturday.

BETHAL – The cricket season kicked off for the Courier Guy Bethal Bears on Sunday, 23 September when they played their first T20 match in Piet Retief.

The Bears scored 106/6 and bowled Piet Retief out for 69 runs and won the match with 37 runs.

Drikus Pentz of the Bears made 22 runs and Dillon Pillay with his five wickets contributed to the Bears’ victory.

However, Tiaan du Preez was the Courier Guy Bethal Bears man of the match with his all-round performance by taking three wickets and scoring 38 runs.

The Bears played a second match against eMbalenhle last weekend and scored 144/4 and bowled eMbalenhle out for 96 runs.

The Bears won the match with 48 runs and according to the captain, Niel Parsons, Du Preez, Danie Coetzer and Jean Greyling bowled very economically and made it impossible for eMbalenhle’s batsmen to score fast enough.

Greyling contributed with 23 runs and the Courier Guy Bethal Bears man of the match was Pentz for his 61 unbeaten runs.

The Bears’ newly appointed coach, Mr Charles Pentz, was happy with the results and is looking forward to the Bears’ next match.

They will play in the six-a-side cricket tournament that is part of the Rainbow Sportfest at Lake Umuzi on Saturday, 29 September and will face Ermelo on Saturday, 6 October in Ermelo.
