Nkosi Mzolo from Soweto Canoe Club wins Sasol Dam2Dam canoe race

This year 59 paddlers competed in Trichardt.

TRICHARDT – The Sasol Dam2Dam Canoe race was held at the Trichardtsfontein Dam on 19 July.

The morning began with four members of the Sasol Canoe Club tripping the river, ensuring that the Trichardt Spruit Trichardt was still safe before the race began.

Two men broke their boats due to bad luck and only one, Sean Boyley, managed to make it to the finish.

After the river was confirmed to be safe, the race began on the dam.

Paddlers coming mainly from Gauteng and the Lowveld, paddled a lap around the dam after which they climbed over the dam wall and ran down to the river to paddle down the 10 kilometre stretch of river to Tweedraai Dam.

Being the race host, the Sasol Canoe Club members were marshals at various rapids and obstacles along the route to ensure the safety of the paddlers.

This year 59 paddlers competed in the race and Nkosi Mzolo from Soweto Canoe Club won the race.
