Police focus on Boschkop area

The operation entailed high-visibility patrols in crime hotspots, compliance inspections and raids on illicit liquor outlets.

Operation Shanela was executed with coordination among various agencies on March 14 in the Boschkop area.

The operation entailed high-visibility patrols in crime hotspots, compliance inspections and raids on illicit liquor outlets. Throughout the operation, the Tshwane teams successfully apprehended 295 suspects.

Tshwane district police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said, “Among them were 93 individuals involved in gender-based violence, one for murder, two for attempted murder, two involved in armed robbery, and seven arrested for rape.”

The tactical groups inspected 16 liquor premises, with seven premises found to be non-compliant with the Liquor Act.

“Liquor totalling 182 820ml was confiscated and will be destroyed upon finalisation of the criminal cases.”

The tactical teams also recovered a Toyota Corolla and arrested a suspect wanted for robbery and assault in the Boschkop area.

They also responded to a call regarding a business robbery in progress, resulting in the interception and identification of a Black Mazda CX7, stolen in October 2023 in the Vosman area.

The officers also confiscated an unlicensed firearm stolen in Kempton Park in September 2023.

“One individual was arrested for dealing in dagga when the officers found 4kg in his possession.

“They also issued 208 Aarto infringement notices, totalling R89 450,” said Van Dyk.

The Department of Labour inspected 11 businesses and subsequently issued 16 businesses with contravention and improvement notices.

Various agencies executed this operation, including the Departments of Home Affairs and Labour, Gauteng Traffic Department, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Crime Prevention Wardens, Community Policing Forum from the respective stations, and elected councillors. Additionally, members from different police stations and units operating within the Tshwane Policing area played pivotal roles.
