Levels at Grootdraai Dam are at 100.8%

The decline in water levels in the district is in line with the overall drop in levels, and recorded an average drop from 98.7% to 98.5%.

The reservoirs report from the Department of Water and Sanitation, dated February 26, indicated the Gert Sibande District in Mpumalanga recorded a 0.3% drop from last week’s 97.3% to 97.0%, with the majority of listed dams recording declines.

Westoe Dam, however, recorded an increase from 65.7% to 67.0%. Among the listed dams that recorded a drop in water levels, there are dams still above the 100% mark and the lowest level is above 65%.

According to the report, the dams are still above 100% which recorded declines in water levels, including the Grootdraai Dam dropping from 100.9% to 100.8%, Vygeboom from 100.7% to 100.6% and Heyshope from 101.0% to 100.3%.

Nooitgedacht dropped from 100.3% to 99.6%, Morgenstond from 95.9% to 95.2%, and Jericho from 75.2% to 74.7%.

The decline in water levels in the district is in line with the overall drop in levels, which recorded an average drop from 98.7% to 98.5%.

In terms of water management areas, the Olifants dropped from 87.3% to 87.2% and the Inkomati-Usuthu dropped from 97.7% to 97.5%.

Compared to the other districts, Nkangala dropped from 99.7% to 99.6% and Ehlanzeni remained unchanged at 99.9%.

The department encouraged the public to continue using water wisely and sparingly as water volumes dropped and reminded the public that water conservation is key to water supply security as South Africa is a water-scarce country.
