Communities around Cullinan are without water for days

The reservoir was affected, and the towns had to rely on tankers sent by the City of Tshwane.

Residents from various towns in Wards 99 and 100 were dumped in a crisis when their taps dried up for about four days this past week.

The problem began on February 4 when the power supply of the water plant was suddenly interrupted because of a mechanical failure of one pump.

The affected communities were Rethabiseng, Zithobeni, Ekandustria, Ekangala, Bronkhorstspruit and Cullinan.

The reservoir was affected, and the towns had to rely on tankers sent by the City of Tshwane.

Magalies Water, which supplies Cullinan and the surrounding towns, informed the residents of the problem.
David Magae, the spokesperson for Magalies Water, said Eskom was informed about the problem and a technical team was dispatched.

Jabu Mabona, RH of Region 7, said the service provider appointed is pushing on re-installing the second pump once the one pump is pumping and providing water to the residents.

“There is a process from the City of Tshwane’s point of view to refurbish the whole water treatment plant to ensure the resolving of the current water challenges.”

An engineer has been assigned to the project, but a date has not been set for when the refurbishment will commence.
