Rayton community cleans up their town

The Rayton residents helped clearing their roads from overgrown grass and rubble in the roads.

Various areas in Ward 100 are facing a critical situation regarding the cleanliness of the environment.

Local businesses and Ward 100 Clr Johannes Bekker addressed the issues, as it affect the aesthetic appeal of the neighbourhood and pose health and safety risks to the residents.

Over the past few months, the state of cleanliness in Ward 100 has deteriorated significantly.

The streets, parks, and public spaces have become dumping grounds for litter, garbage, and other waste materials.

“It is disheartening to witness the neglect and lack of responsibility displayed by some members of our community,” said Bekker.

“The consequences of this negligence are far-reaching. Not only does the unsightly appearance of the surroundings negatively impact the quality of life, but it attracts vermin and pests, posing potential health hazards. The accumulation of garbage also obstructs the drainage systems, leading to flooding during heavy rainfalls, which further endangers the safety of residents.

Residents and volunteers helped clear the roads in Rayton.

“Road safety, in particular, has become a major concern because of the lack of cleanliness. The presence of debris, broken glass, and discarded objects on the roads poses a significant risk to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.”
In light of these circumstances, Bekker urges residents to take immediate action.

“It is a community’s collective responsibility to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the environment.

“I implore you to dispose of waste properly, refrain from littering, and encourage others to do the same.

“I urge you to actively participate in community clean-up initiatives and report instances of illegal dumping or negligence to the relevant authorities.

“Over the past few days, community businesses and other stakeholders demonstrated their commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment,” said Bekker.

He thanked the AfriForum Cullinan/Rayton branch, Transnet, and all businesses for their attention and cooperation.
