Municipality in Standerton has improved audit outcome

Lekwa’s mayor is proud of positive results.

Lekwa Municipality welcomed the improved audit finding from the Auditor General of South Africa for the first time after receiving consecutive disclaimers for four years.

According to their communications manager, Lubabalo Majenge, the municipality received a qualified audit outcome for the 2022/23 financial year.

Having audited the municipality’s performance management, financial management and efficiency and effectiveness of municipal governance, the auditor general has pointed out some matters that needed to be addressed.

The executive mayor, Delani Thabethe, said this audit outcome shows the municipality is on the right path of rebuilding the municipal systems through effective good governance, accountability, and ultimately clean administration as they strive to provide quality services to their communities.

“We are proud that our efforts of steering this municipality to calmer waters are beginning to yield positive results,” said Thabethe.

“There is a lot of work to be done to ultimately achieve a clean audit, which must be matched with the provision of quality services to our residents.”

He concluded by thanking everybody who contributed to the improved audit outcome, from the council, the MPAC, the audit committee, and the entire administration.

“We can achieve a lot if we work towards one common goal.”
