Entities in Bronkhorstspruit fight HIV/Aids stigma

The office of the station commander, Colonel Maqhawe Simon Dhladhla, and the Department of Health joined hands.

The office of the Bronkhorstspruit Police Station commander, Colonel Maqhawe Simon Dhladhla, and the Department of Health joined hands to fight the stigma of HIV/Aids and remember those who lost their lives on December 1.

Annually, on December 1, the world commemorates World Aids Day when people unite to show support for people living with and affected by HIV and to remember those who lost their lives to Aids.

Dhladhla encouraged members to raise awareness of HIV/Aids concurrently with GBV throughout the year.

The Department of Health gave an educational talk on HIV/Aids.

Phumzile Masango, a counsellor at Bronkhorstspruit Clinic, said there is no cure for HIV infection. However, treatment with antiretroviral (ARV) drugs stops the virus from replicating in the body, so HIV is a preventable disease.

She emphasised that mothers can use ARVs to prevent passing HIV to their babies, and access to testing and ARV is a vital part of preventing HIV.

Bishop Jele led a healing prayer, praying for those infected and affected by HIV/Aids. Furthermore, the SAPS management and members lit candles to remember those who had lost their lives and show support to the infected.
