Residents in Ext 4, eMbalenhle, want to hire private security

We see criminals running around with suspected items like fridges and washing machines; it was my first time to see a person carrying a fridge by himself.

The Ext 4 community in eMbalenhle wants to hire a security company to safeguard their homes due to an increase in house burglaries.

These community members held a meeting last week where they reported burglaries at some homes and belongings stolen during the day while they were at work.

According to Ace Vilakazi, a resident, it is troubling that businesses and homes are burgled during the day because there are no more sector crime forums in the area.

“We are facing a serious crime challenge. That is why we decided to hire a security company to safeguard businesses and our homes.

“We see criminals running around with suspected stolen goods such as fridges and washing machines. It was my first time to see a person carrying a fridge alone. That shows we have a serious crime problem,” said Vilakazi.

Constable Busi Mthethwa, eMbalenhle police spokesperson, said the police promote a partnership between police and the community.

Mthethwa said they encourage the community to join crime sector forums and street communities that fight crime and also form the neighbourhood watch.

Mthethwa said if the Ext 4 community wants the police to assist them in forming a neighbourhood watch initiative, they are welcome to visit the eMbalenhle Police Station or contact their sector manager.
Mthethwa also said as police they were available to fight crime.
