Govan Mbeki Darts Association excel in 2023 season

Darts players competed in the Govan Mbeki Open that took place at Secunda Sasol Darts Club on November 18.

Govan Mbeki Darts Association ended the 2023 darting season on a high note. The men’s team finished second in their division in July at the South African National Darts Championships and were promoted to the next higher division.

They are Gareth Lottering, George Makhubo, Morné Fourie, Anrich Viljoen, Mac Mc Laren, Leslie Naidoo and Renier Harmse.

Mac Mc Laren came in fifth place nationally in the Masters Men’s Division – over 50’s. GMDA continued their winning streak during the first three provincial darts tournaments of the 2024 darts year.

Twenty-three GMDA players attended the Lekwa Open on October 21, more than the rest of Mpumalanga put together.

In the men’s seniors division, Leslie Naidoo came in first place. Second was Morné Fourie. In the women’s seniors division, Anna-Marie Lezar walked away with third place.

In the women’s masters division, Heloise Mc Laren finished in second place. On November 4, 14 players competed in the Emakhazeni Open.

In the men’s seniors division, Kyle Jonker finished in second place, with George Makhubo in third. In the men’s senior pairs division, Kyle Jonker and Leslie Naidoo ended in second place.

Rosita Lange finished in third place in the women’s senior division. Heloise Mc Laren claimed second place in the women’s masters division.

In the women’s pairs masters division, first place went to Heloise Mc Laren (GMDA) and Linda Botha (VK Darts).
Second place in the men’s masters division was Mac Mc Laren.

The men’s pairs master division saw Johan de Kock (GMDA) and Charles Feldman (VK Darts) come third. 180s were Morné Fourie, Kyle Jonker, George Makhubo, Gareth Lottering and Dylane Tonkin.

The highest close of 136 were George Makhubo and Morné Fourie. In the Govan Mbeki Open, which took place at the Sasol Darts Club on November 18, 22 GMDA players competed.

George Makhubo took first place in the senior men’s division, with Kyle Jonker taking second place. In the senior men’s pairs division, George Makhubo and Morné Fourie were victorious with their first-place win.

Second place went to Kyle Jonker and Leslie Naidoo. In the senior women’s division, Anna-Marie Lezar took third place.

First place in the men’s masters division went to Mac Mc Laren. In the masters men’s pairs division, Mac Mc Laren and Johan de Kock came third. Heloise Mc Laren was the first-place winner in the women’s masters division.

180s were George Makhubo (2), Kyle Jonker and Mac Mc Laren (4).

171s was Johan de Kock. The highest close went to George Makhubo (128) and Karthi Naidoo (119).

Anyone in high school or older is welcome to join the GMDA for practice at Sasol Darts Club on Mondays and Wednesdays from 18:00.
