Body found after shooting incident on N12

The tracking company cut the fuel supply to the taxi and left the driver and passengers stranded on the N12.

A taxi driver landed himself in hot water after forgetting to inform his satellite tracking company of his intention to leave the Benoni area.

According to the Sundra Police, the station received a complaint about a shooting incident on the N12 on November 12 at around 00:30.

Upon arrival, the police found a white and green Toyota Quantum GL10 seater taxi.

The owner of the taxi explained to the police officer that he was on his way to Buschbuckridge and had forgotten to inform his tracking company that he was leaving the Benoni area.

The tracking company subsequently cut the fuel supply to the taxi and left the driver and passengers stranded on the N12.

Sundra SAPS further stated whilst the taxi driver was on the phone with his tracking company, four men suddenly appeared on the scene.

The suspects then apparently offered assistance and wanted to know if everything was in order.

Two of the men took out firearms while the remaining two got into the taxi and demanded cellphones, bags and money.

After robbing the owner and his passengers, the taxi owner apparently got out of his vehicle and started firing in the direction of the bushes wherein the suspects fled.

Upon further investigation, one body was found about 49m from the taxi. Next to the body, the police officers found two of the cellphones, taken from the driver and passengers.

According to the police, the deceased suffered one gunshot at the back of his left ear. They arrested no other suspects.
