Dancers from Standerton on their way to the US

The American panel of judges awarded special awards to those who made a memorable impact.

Dancers from Studio X Dance recently took part in the Dance International’s American Dance Awards in Pretoria.

For individual dancers to receive their national colours and selected for the team representing South Africa in America 2024, they needed to get an item score of 88% or above for the dances they performed on stage.

The following dancers obtained national colours. Brennan Jansen achieved 90.3% for her hip-hop solo and 87.6% for her contemporary duet.

Joné Botha scored 87.6% for her contemporary solo and 88.3% for her modern solo. Clarisse Botha achieved 90% for her hip-hop solo and 90.3% for her modern solo with a special award.


Elri Fourie and Julicke Wolmarans participate in the jazz duet.

Elné van der Walt scored 90.3% in the modern duet and 88% for a modern solo. Margolé Marx received 87.3% for the contemporary duet and 88% for the modern solo.

Lea Crawford won a special award with her 89.3% for her modern solo. She also scored 86% in contemporary solo.
Zania du Preez obtained 86% for the modern trio and 88% for her modern solo.

Rearata Mbonani achieved 90.3% for her modern duet, 88% for a ballet solo and 88.6% for an open solo.

Miechke Mostert achieved 87% for her contemporary solo, 87.6% for contemporary duet, 87.3% for hip-hop duet and 90% for hip-hop solo (receives her colours).

Elri Fourie obtained 90% for contemporary solo with a special award, 94% for her hip-hop solo with a special award, 90.6% in modern solo, 92.3% for her contemporary duet with Julicke, 87.6% for a jazz duet with Julicke, and 88.3% for a contemporary trio with Celine and Julicke.

Cecile Scheepers scored 91.3% in the hip-hop solo.

Julicke Wolmarans achieved 88.3% for a contemporary trio, 89.3% for a contemporary duet with Celine, 92.3% for a contemporary duet with Elri, 92% for a jazz solo with a special award, 85.6% for her ballet solo, 87.6% for a jazz duet with Elri, and 93.3% for lyrical solo with a special award.


Clarisse Botha is on her way to the US to compete against the best.

Celine Preuyt scored 90.3% for her open solo, 94% for her lyrical solo, 90% for her hip-hop solo, 88.3% for a contemporary trio with Julicke and Elri, and 89% for a contemporary duet with Julicke.

Luca van Aswegen obtained 85.5% for a modern duet and 88.3% for a modern solo with a special award. Carmi Botha got 88.6% for a modern solo, and 87.3% for a ballet duet.

The tour to Providence, Rhode Island, is from July 1 to 7 next year and the South African team will join dancers from other countries to participate on a massive stage.
