GMM employee allegedly found trying to steal municipal van

It was unclear on how the employee managed to take the van back to eMbalenhle where the municipality law enforcers went to collect it.

A Govan Mbeki Municipality employee was recently found driving a municipal van towards Gauteng. According to a reliable source, the fleet control department noticed that the van was travelling outside the municipal jurisdiction.

He then called the person who was the last to use the van. The employee was asked where he was going because he had already been knocked off duty.

It is alleged that the employee responded that another employee who has returned from suspension, took the van.

The vehicle control department then called the second employee to find out where he was going, it is alleged that he told the municipal fleet controller he didn’t have a right to ask him where he was traveling to, then the fleet controller immediately stopped the van and it was also alleged that the van municipal stickers were removed.

It was unclear how the employee managed to take the van back to eMbalenhle where the municipality law enforcers went to collect it.

The van was part of the newly bought fleet that was recently unveiled by the Municipality executive mayor, Nhlakanipho Zuma

Donald Green, the municipality spokesperson said the matter is between employer and employee and is currently being investigated.

Green didn’t confirm if the case was open or not.
