Famsa in Secunda holds AGM

The non-profit welfare organisation talks about its finances and work.

The non-profit welfare organisation Families South Africa (Famsa) held its AGM on October 26.

Tessa Stromvig, the vice chairperson, thanked the board and everyone at Famsa for their support and said Famsa celebrated a successful Social Workers Appreciation Day this year.

Treasurer André Blom read the financial report and discussed the NPO’s finances. Director of Famsa Marcelle Victor read her report and indicated which people would be available to serve on Famsa’s board.

She said Famsa is the biggest welfare organisation in Secunda, with 203 intakes this year compared to 142 last year.

“The previous time we reached 200 intakes was in 2009. Our services are in high demand, and we used the subsidies we received positively,” said Victor.

Reverend Frederik Coetzee, from the Dutch Reformed Church Secunda East congregation, was the day’s guest speaker. He said the fullness of life is about contentment and simplicity.

“We must have a full and abundant life and live one that is meaningful and purposeful,” said Coetzee.

“What does it mean to be content? It is to have a deep sense of peace and satisfaction.

“The Bible teaches us not to be materialistic and to collect treasures in heaven where thieves cannot break in and steal them.”

He encouraged people to remember their dreams and the goals they are working toward.
