Man gets 25 years for killing partner in Standerton

Last week the Mpumalanga division of the high court which was sitting in Delmas heard how the crime unfolded.

Jabulane Lephoto has been sentenced to 25 years for killing his partner, Phindile Mokoena, in Standerton two years ago.

Last week the Mpumalanga division of the high court which was sitting in Delmas heard how the crime unfolded.

Police say a heated argument between Mokoena and Lephoto, later turned physical which resulted in Lephoto assaulting Mokoena several times with a certain object which ended Mokoena’s life.

Lephoto went into hiding and was arrested by the police in January this year.

Lephoto was denied bail until his conviction.

Mpumalanga police have welcomed the hefty sentence and hope it serves as a deterrence to other would-be perpetrators of gender-based violence and femicide.
