Report anyone in Standerton who solicits payment after cable theft

The communications manager said when a cable is stolen, residents are required to get an affidavit, which is used as a supporting document when the requisition is made at the stores to get a replacement.

Municipal workers allegedly solicit payment from residents after cable theft incidents.

This information was supplied by Corné Stoltz, by-election independent candidate in Meyerville, to the Standerton Advertiser.

Stoltz said he spoke to Mayor Delani Louis Thabethe, who undertook to send a memorandum to the workers in this regard.

The newspaper contacted the Lekwa communications manager, Lubabalo Majenge, who said when a cable is stolen, residents are required to get an affidavit.

This will be used as a supporting document when the requisition is made at the stores to get a replacement.

According to him, residents are not required to pay any amount of money and are encouraged to report any person who solicits payment from them.

He said such action is tantamount to fraud.

Majenge said when the municipality does not have cables in stock, some residents offer to buy the cables to avoid waiting longer without electricity.

Once the stock becomes available, the municipality installs the municipal cable.
