Class of 1979 enjoys reunion in Evander

Group thanks school principal for key rings and everyone who contributed.

The matric class of Evander High School of 1979, known as 10B, held a reunion on September 2 at Unicor Dam.

“We got together 44 years later and it was an unforgettable reunion,” said James van Rensburg who organised the event.

Some of the former learners travelled more than 400km to attend the reunion.

This matric group’s teacher, Elsha van Staden, died a few weeks before the reunion on August 13 and another teacher, Martine Oosthuisen, died eight years ago.

“Our condolences and regret go out to them and their families,” said Van Rensburg.

Those who are now living overseas also joined the reunion via Skype. It was set up by Philip van Vuuren.

They are Brian Swart (Australia), John Churcher (Canada) and Dulce Martins (Portugal).

The group thanked Van Rensburg and André Muller for organising the day as well as the current school principal of Evander High School, Jaco van Wyk, for sponsoring key rings for each attendee and lending them the school flag.

One of the former matrics who also attended the reunion, Tracey Freer Meredith, baked a cake for the occasion.
